This breed a great layer of blue eggs, about 200 – 250 eggs per year. Ameraucanas have muffs and a beard, and blueish or slate colored legs, distinguishing them from the similiarly named Araucanas. The Ameraucana breed is rare and generally only available through breeders. Be aware that some hatcheries may sell the Easter Egger breed as “Americanas,” a misspelling and definitely not the same breed. Be sure you are getting a true Ameraucana, particularly if you are interested in showing your birds.
